Handprint Family Tree

Six graders with their parents performed the Handprint Family Tree activity. The objective of this activity is to distinguish between inherited and learned traits. Students have traced the right and left hand of his/her and their parents. On each finger of the left handprint an inherited trait is listed, while on each finger of the right hand print a learned trait is listed. All the family’s handprints are glued on the trunk to form a tree. Each student can see how their parents’ grandparents’ trait is compared to his/her own. Some students represented their work to their classmates with enthusiasm.
