Bee Generous Campaign Speech

When I came to school this morning, I was surprised to see that one of our most important guests today was already here waiting excitedly outside school. When I asked this guest the reason why she should up so early, there was a smile on her face. She looked at me smiling and said," This is my house; I am always present here; I see myself and the qualities that I embody in each and everyone at this school. You all are the perfect reflection of me and my qualities. I know that today is a very special day at ABAT so I decided to make my physical appearance visible to everyone." I welcomed her at our school with emotions of delight and over joy and I am sure that you are all as elated as I am but also anxious to know who that special guest is? Look around you; I am sure you will find her standing somewhere here. Did you know who she is? Any guesses? Mmm, yes, you are right: she is our friend, the bee!! Let me give you a glimpse of how our school was like in the first three months. When entering our school, you would definitely feel the positive energy and dynamic spirit. It was a very active beehive with the buzzing sounds of laughter and the sweet sensation of happiness for belonging to this distinguished school. Today is the time for the bee hive to produce its first fresh jars of honey. It is the most refined honey you will ever taste. The ingredients that we have mixed to come up with this tasteful honey are and foremost team work, which embodies cooperation and collaboration, persistence, determination, hard work, and responsibility. We, at ABAT, exert constant efforts to provide the fertile soil that is rich with different vitamins like the above qualities to make our students believe that when working together, they succeed in reaching the aim of bringing about change and contributing fruitfully to the world around them. It is the golden chance of helping them realize their potential and become conscious of what each one of them is good at. There is nothing more satisfying to us than watching their faces and viewing their reactions while they productively reap what they have sewn. Today's event falls in this direction. We have come with the idea of the Bee Generous Garage Sale because we wanted to highlight the importance of being part of a group and to emphasize the significance of working together thus raising our children's sense of responsibility by encouraging them to take part in this event and showing how valuable their participation is. When students heard of the garage sale, the level of enthusiasm was beyond description. Everyone wanted to take part, to share and to be generous. Today's event is the perfect depiction that unity is strength and that ,when like bees, you follow the strategy of organization and planning, success is ensured. I would like to thank our valuable guests. You are an important part of ABAT family. Your support is what keeps us going. I would like to thank ABAT family, administration, teachers, staff and students for working in harmony and for their commitment and contribution which is the perfect example of "Together We Achieve More". Finally I would like to extend a special "thank you" to the parents. Without you, none of what you see around you could have taken place. Now I invite you to taste our honey and admire beautifully the beautiful flowers that are waiting for you at each stand and smell its exquisite fragrance. Thank you very much

"Kids Read" at ABAT... and Teachers, Too!

Hello dear ABAT blog readers,
I believe it has been a long time since I have updated you about our most recent English language projects.

For the second year in a row, the British Council's "Kids Read" ship boarded our ABAT dock.
This year, our elementary students had an important mission to accomplish before the 7th of December: finding a name for the "Kids Read" bookworm.

Our young ABATians were up to the challenge and filled the required templates, I found myself surrounded by hundreds of original names and clever answers, among which I had  to choose only three winners.

Our three outstanding winning participants who were crowned at ABAT came as follows:
1st place: Baraa Al Jibali (Grade 6 A)
2nd place: Ahmad Mahfouz (Grade 2 A)
3rd place: Ahmad Lababidi (Grade 6 B)

Our 1st place winner will be joining national and regional competitions, so cross your fingers really tight... 

However, the competition doesn't end here, for this year English speaking teachers were also involved in a "Teachers Read" competition according to which each teacher picked her favorite story among the "Kids Read" various entries, voted for it, and summarized it in a way that would attract their students to read it themselves. Later on, students were curious to read what their teachers wrote and headed to the school library to choose the same stories and fill out the reading passports.

All the students' and teachers' thorough work was displayed in a creatively designed and eye-catching "Big Book" hung at the entrance of the school.

Last Monday, the Kids Read project manager Ms. Claire Ross and her assistant Mrs. Rola Ziadeh  visited our school being the first school to complete the competition requirements on time, and they praised the assiduous work of the participants and the originality of the "Big Book" display area. They also met with our winners and congratulated them in person.

Last but not least, I need you to wish our winner and teachers all the luck.

Professional Developement @ Makassed ABAT Primary School

On Thursday 21st  November 2012, we held an indoor training on how to use the "Picture trail" online program as one of our sessions for the continuous professional development plan for the academic year 2012-2013.
